Todd McLellan's Things Come Apart

Todd McLellan: I was born among the golden wheat fields of Saskatchewan. Raised by a carpenter and an electronic technician, I became fond of the hands-on approach. I cultivated my passion for photography at the Alberta College of Art and Design, and in 2002 moved to Toronto for the reaping. Inspired by many great image-makers, I have a fascination with visuals that combine different disciplines. I enjoy creating them in studio, in the great outdoors and, occasionally, with finger-paint.

Booklyn is an artist run non-profit dedicated to promoting artist books as an art form and an educational resource, through production, programming, and exhibitions.

Booklyn Artists Alliance is pleased to announce the opening of DIAMOND LEAVES: Artist Books from around the World. A collaboration between the Booklyn Artists Alliance and the Central Academy of Fine Arts Museum in Beijing, the exhibition is curated by Xu Bing, artist and Vice-President of the CAFAM, and Marshall Weber, artist and Directing Curator of Booklyn; it is the first major museum exhibition of contemporary international Artist Books in China.

The cute waitress at the Alembic has
hair red as Ann Margaret’s, eyes liquid
lined like Marilyn, Sophia Loren. She’s
beautiful, always looks high.
Peonies and poppies, koi and flowering
vines on her soft shoulders, American thighs.
She has freckles, a little lisp. Angela,
from Wisconsin, who was in the Army
eight years. This is what a veteran looks like
now, I keep telling myself, on the sidewalk
after her shift while she drinks, talks
about driving trucks into Baghdad, rolls
her eyes about the VA, being brave. She laughs
about self-medicating PTSD, how the earthquake
the other day made her think IED.
I light her cigarette, laugh with her,
squeeze her elbow, thinking Fucking A.

The 2011 Editions|Artists' Book Fair will take place Friday, 4 November to Sunday, 6 November.
Founded in 1998 by Susan Inglett of I.C. Editions and Brooke Alexander Editions, the Editions|Artists' Book Fair has grown in size and stature to become the premier showcase for contemporary publishers and dealers, presenting the latest and greatest in prints, multiples and artists' books. The Editions|Artists' Book Fair is well known for its vibrant energy and innovation, thanks to over sixty exhibitors, presenting hundreds of artists representing New York, Johannesburg, Amsterdam, London, Paris and points in between. The Editions|Artists' Book Fair was the first fair to offer FREE admission, initiated with the intent of introducing a broader public to the medium of prints, multiples, and artists' books. Fourteen years later the Fair continues to do just that.
